Chapter 127: Record Corrected
Jonah signed the corrected record, slid it toward Miriam, and said, "Let the debt story end here too."
On Tuesday, WMG's HR custodian sat across from us in Miriam's conference room.
The custodian had delivered a corrected D07, a public retraction draft, and native receipt fields. The delivery package carried HR's source identifier and current retention rule.
Jonah received them through Miriam, not through me.
The old file had labeled him unwilling to cooperate and resistant to review.
The independent records showed he attended, submitted responses, and challenged unsupported language. D03, L03, and the protected W01 process record supported that correction.
The correction removed the claims that those records contradicted.
It did not erase his documented difficulty in cross-team communication.
The draft retained a narrow assessment that he could be blunt, impatient, and hard to redirect. It preserved dates and review context instead of presenting adjectives without a source.
Jonah read that paragraph twice.
He said the words were unfavorable but supported by actual performance material.
He would not trade one false portrait for a flattering one.
The HR custodian entered his acceptance without describing it as complete rehabilitation. Jonah retained the right to challenge any future inaccurate use.
Miriam checked the personnel version history, delivery address, and effective date. She also confirmed that the withdrawn label could not remain in automated reference output.
I watched from the participant chair without a document control login.
When the public retraction appeared, its first sentence called the problem a miscommunication.
Jonah rejected that word himself.
He pointed to the unsupported refusal label and the records that disproved it.
The custodian replaced `miscommunication` with a factual withdrawal of the inaccurate statements. The revision named the old statement, the supported correction, and its effective date.
The next sentence confirmed his timely participation and documented objections.
It did not promise a job, damages, or public affection.
Jonah approved the revised wording through his own attorney channel.
I did not negotiate, suggest adjectives, or threaten Northline coverage.
At 11:18, the custodian signed the native correction and generated a delivery receipt.
Miriam retained Jonah's copy and the attorney verification record.
WMG HR retained the corrected source under its governing records policy.
KRR received an indexed public derivative and retraction link. Its public hash differed from the protected personnel original and mapped back through the index.
No protected medical, address, or unrelated employment field entered the public version.
The correction satisfied the D16 remediation deadline without settling Jonah's individual claim. It also did not bind a future employer to any hiring decision.
Bridgework remained optional and independent if he sought compensation.
A producer then emailed both our attorneys with a `couple victory` interview offer.
The pitch asked us to describe the correction as love defeating the Whitmore family.
Jonah declined through Miriam before asking what I planned.
I declined separately through Dana.
We allowed the two refusals to carry different timestamps and language.
His record was not a reward I had earned for him.
My relationship was not payment for the year he had lost.
The correction did not require him to forgive my communications work.
It did not require me to turn his employment file into our romance ending.
We could choose each other without inventing a debt. Either of us could still disagree, travel, change jobs, or end the relationship.
Jonah closed the corrected file and kept his own copy.
I kept no copy and asked for none.
The HR custodian left the public retraction on the KRR link for anyone to inspect.
Miriam changed the conference screen to the remaining implementation list.
Jonah pointed to Northline's communications practices rather than his own claim.
He said employees there needed a correction right before another client demanded a convenient lie.
I opened my calendar without offering him a role in the company.
The Northline staff vote on a binding client charter would begin the next morning.
