Chapter 104: Nothing Only We Knew
By sunset, there was nothing in the evidence that required Jonah and me to stay in the same room.
On Thursday, KRR's data room held two blank explanation forms on separate screens.
The custodian controlled both sessions from a central console. The screens were visible across the same glass table, but each input field carried a separate attribution. Neither of us could silently complete the other's entry or approve a shared memory.
Jonah began with the abbreviations from his old audit notes.
He did not open a private notebook or surrender one.
The screen displayed only terms already present in KRR's lawful records.
He expanded each abbreviation in plain language.
The custodian compared his wording with contemporaneous files, register fields, and established usage.
When two records supported the same meaning, the dictionary cited both.
When one source supported only a possible meaning, the entry said `contextual explanation`.
One abbreviation had changed between departments.
Jonah offered the interpretation he had used at the time.
Samuel asked whether a source outside Jonah's memory confirmed it.
None did.

Jonah accepted the label.
The D04 register entry remained exactly as the source custodian had produced it. Samuel compared the before-and-after display. Only the separate dictionary gained text; the issue status, closing time, source fields, and unanswered questions did not change.
The dictionary explained terms beside that record without changing the record itself.
It created no new finding about who closed the issue or why.
My form opened next.
The terms came from archived drafts, calendar labels, and household phrases Andrew had used in work-related messages.
KRR had already obtained those phrases through lawful records. I did not open personal correspondence, search an old device, or offer a story that the firm had never requested.
Some had ordinary meanings within our marriage.
Ordinary did not make my memory independent proof.
I explained that `family review` usually meant a private conversation before a public event.
Two calendars and a Northline scheduling note supported that limited meaning.
The custodian added the sources.
I explained that `quiet copy` had sometimes meant text not yet approved for distribution.
The phrase appeared differently in two company records.
I could not verify one fixed usage.
Samuel marked it uncertain.
I felt the old temptation to insist that twelve years of marriage made me the authority.
Marriage had given me context, not exclusive ownership of fact.
I approved the uncertainty label.
The unresolved word remained available for later source comparison, but no report writer could cite my confidence as verification. Uncertainty became a recorded result instead of an invitation to call me privately.
The independent dictionary separated source text, participant explanation, corroboration, and unresolved ambiguity.
Every entry named who supplied the explanation and when.
None required a reader to accept Jonah's or my interpretation alone.
The custodian linked the dictionary to the evidence index without replacing any native file.
KRR retained final control over whether an entry informed the report.
Jonah could correct his own quoted words.
He could not edit my section.

Dana and Miriam reviewed only the permissions and attributions relevant to their clients.
No private marriage story entered the public file.
No protected witness identity appeared on either screen.
At 6:11, the custodian locked the dictionary, explanation logs, sources, and uncertainty flags.
The completion receipt listed no exclusive knowledge holder. It showed two limited participants, one independent custodian, Samuel's methodological control, and a future correction path that did not require either participant's permission.
I signed the final handoff line.
Jonah signed his on the other screen.
Samuel closed both sessions and generated a capability confirmation.
KRR could complete its report, preserve custody, and protect every witness without either Jonah or me remaining involved.
